How Much CBD Should You Take?

One of the most common questions that gets asked involving cannabidiol (CBD) is how much you should take for common ailments such as inflammation, chronic pain, insomnia, acne, and anxiety. And while CBD is awaiting U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to be used for these types of symptoms, a product called Epidiolex has been approved which is essentially 100 mg/ML of CBD isolate suspended in flavored liquid to treat certain types of epilepsy in both children and adults.

Epidiolex use for epilepsy, and why it matters.

Bear with us for a minute while we explain why an epilepsy drug matters to you. The FDA published document detailing dosage for Epidiolex to treat epilepsy says a patient can take up to 450 mg per dose per 100 lb body weight, twice a day. That means the average person in the U.S. weighing 195 lb would be given up to 877 mg of CBD, twice a day for over 1,750mg of CBD per day to reduce seizures. While 1,750mg of CBD is NOT what we’re recommending for use to treat your post-workout soreness, the important thing to know is that such high doses of CBD has been tested extensively on humans to be safe and effective.

So then how much CBD do you need to take to supplement the recovery process for your every day ailments like back pain, acne, poor sleep quality, and anxiety? Because everyone has a unique body, diet, metabolism, and general CBD tolerance levels, it’s a tricky question to answer. However, we have general consensus knowledge of where to start finding your baseline dosage levels by different conditions, thanks to customer feedback who take our tincture products and years of public usage of CBD’s.

Find how much CBD you should take using a Stepwise approach.

We want to emphasize that until the FDA publishes accepted dosage and administration guidelines, any dosage information you find anywhere, including here, should only be used as a reference to establish your own dosage amount and should not be construed as medical advice. We also recommend consulting your doctor before embarking on the process of figuring out the proper CBD dosage for you.

To discover what the correct dosage amount will be for your particular condition, you can take a stepwise dosing approach. This is a process where you establish a minimum baseline dosage (perhaps start with the customer feedback values above), then adjust your dosage up/down incrementally over a period of few days until you settle in to an effective dosage level. The process may take several days or even weeks to dial in properly, so a little patience goes a long way.

Not all CBD products are equal for dosing considerations.

Another factor to keep in mind while figuring out your dosage is the intake method for the product you’re using. Known as bioavailability, it’s the rate at a substance is absorbed in to the bloodstream. Products like Symbio Wellness Tinctures that are taken sublingually (under the tongue) are estimated to have up to 35% bioavailability. But Symbio MEND, READY, and SLEEP are taken orally and digested through the stomach and small intestine which is estimated to have somewhere between 4% to 20%. Practically speaking, it means CBD taken under the tongue could be twice as potent as the stuff you eat. So be sure to adjust your dosage expectations appropriately based on the type of product you’re trying to use.
